How it all started...
We began as Scenic Woods Assembly of God under the ministry of Rev. and Mrs. Melvin E. Lake in 1959. Worship Services were held in a house for a few months until they moved into a Civic Center near Mt. Houston and Homestead Road. Two lots were purchased on the corner of Homestead Road and Sam Houston Street where a tent was erected for services until a 50′ x 50′ flat top building was constructed. In 1961, the name of the church was changed to Northwood Assembly of God.
In 1965, evangelists Paul and Patricia Emerson became pastors. With God’s help and a lot of hard work and dedication, the church grew. After a couple of building additions, the church voted to relocate and build a new building. They purchased 5 acres on the corner of Aldine Westfield and Lauder Road and merged congregations with Magnolia Gardens Assembly (formerly Calvary Assembly founded by Rev. and Mrs. Earl Hogan) under the leadership of Rev. and Mrs. Ernie Parker. The two became North Central Assembly of God.

Having broke ground in 1979, North Central’s first service in the new facility was in February of 1981. The church continued to grow and God blessed but due to changes in the area and the relocation of most of the membership north, North Central voted to relocate and build again. God provided 20 acres of undeveloped land on the corner of Spring Creek Drive and Aldine Westfield Road (12 miles north of its current facility).
North Central broke ground on April 4, 2006, and held it’s first community service on January 21, 2007. Having faithfully served as Senior Pastors for 42 years, Pastor’s Paul and Patricia Emerson retired from the Senior Pastor position and Co-Pastors Larry and Debbie Emerson were elected the new Lead Pastors of North Central.

Growth and Beyond...
Since opening our doors, on the corner of Aldine Westfield and Spring Creek Drive, in 2007 North Central Church has been blessed to increase both in size, number of ministries and people reached. It wasn’t long until North Central began to outgrow its new space, adding portable buildings for the increasing needs of the youth and children’s ministries.
In 2019, North Central broke ground for a new facility to meet the needs of our growing Youth and Young Adults ministries, which was completed in September of 2020.
Throughout its history, North Central Church has been a church with a missional focus to love our community, meet needs, while loving them and directing them to Christ. Bringing us to our current mission to Love God, Love People, Share Jesus and Make Disciples.
While North Central Church continues to experience dynamic growth, the church leadership strives to provide a sense of home and community to everyone both here and abroad.

Where we are headed...
LEGACY is a response to what God is currently doing and still wants to do through North Central Church!
Leaving a legacy of faith is lasting and not just for this generation we are living in, but generations to come. We are all leaving something of ourselves behind, what is your legacy?
Our church has a great legacy of generations that came before us and we stand on the shoulders of those who stood with us for the legacy that we have, and we want to continue this for future generations.
Our Legacy Initiative does not just end with a new Student Center. It is just the beginning, and we have great aspirations for so much more.
