The True Vine | John 15:1-11
May 21, 2025 • William Horton
In John 15:1-11, Jesus uses the metaphor of a vine and its branches to illustrate the relationship between Himself and His disciples. He declares that He is the "true vine," God the Father is the "gardener," and His followers are the branches. Jesus emphasizes that those who remain ("abide") in Him will bear much fruit, while those who do not remain in Him will be like withered branches, cut off and discarded. Pruning by the Father, though sometimes difficult, helps believers become more fruitful. Jesus urges His disciples to remain in His love by keeping His commandments. He assures them that abiding in Him will lead to complete joy and fruitful lives.
