Who are we?
We’re a multi-ethnic, community of believers with a rich heritage who are passionately following after Christ. We believe in a God who is alive and active in our world today, moving in supernatural ways to restore broken relationships, to help physical and emotional hurts, to break addictions, and to transform lives. In Him, we find Life, new and full and exciting (John 10:10), and we want everyone to experience God in a real and mighty way.
We began as Scenic Woods Assembly of God under the ministry of Rev. and Mrs. Melvin E. Lake in 1959. Worship Services were held in a house for a few months until they moved into a Civic Center near Mt. Houston and Homestead Road. Two lots were purchased on the corner of Homestead Road and Sam Houston Street where a tent was erected for services until a 50′ x 50′ flat top building was constructed. In 1961, the name of the church was changed to Northwood Assembly of God.
In 1965, evangelists Paul and Patricia Emerson became pastors. With God’s help and a lot of hard work and dedication, the church grew. After a couple of building additions, the church voted to relocate and build a new building. They purchased 5 acres on the corner of Aldine Westfield and Lauder Road and merged congregations with Magnolia Gardens Assembly (formerly Calvary Assembly founded by Rev. and Mrs. Earl Hogan) under the leadership of Rev. and Mrs. Ernie Parker. The two became North Central Assembly of God.
Having broke ground in 1979, North Central’s first service in the new facility was in February of 1981. The church continued to grow and God blessed but due to changes in the area and the relocation of most of the membership north, North Central voted to relocate and build again. God provided 20 acres of undeveloped land on the corner of Spring Creek Drive and Aldine Westfield Road (12 miles north of its current facility).
North Central broke ground on April 4, 2006, and held it’s first community service on January 21, 2007. Having faithfully served as Senior Pastors for 42 years, Pastor’s Paul and Patricia Emerson retired from the Senior Pastor position and Co-Pastors Larry and Debbie Emerson were elected the new Lead Pastors of North Central.
As we look to the future, knowing the Lord rewards those who are faithful, we are confident He will continue blessing NC Church for generations to come. To God be All the Glory Forever!
